Error loading smtp server tab

We managed to upgrade from version 7.4 to 9.5 with relatively few issues. We thought we had successfully completed the upgrade, however we have noticed that emails were not being sent from the platform. Upon investigation, it has not been possible for the platform to retrieve the SMTP server information.

From Settings>Servers.>Server Settings, we get an error message flashing up, "Error loading SMTP server tab". There is also a  red banner accros the top of this page saying "There was an error retrieving your content. Please check your internet connection". This is incorrect as the internet connection is OK.

When you then inspect the SMTP Server settings on that page, they are all blank (logical as they were not retrieved). I've checked the hostsettings and portalsettings tables and the smtp data from the 7.4 version has been brought over ok.

Could you please advise the procedure to recify this issue. Many thanks.

Did you follow the suggested upgrade path?

When you did the upgrades, did you unblock each of the zip files?

The "error retrieving ..." message generally indicates a problem with a persona bar item.

Look for errors in the Admin Log (Event Log) and the log4net logs. You might also look at the browser's console window and any network related diagnostics for clues as to what is going on.

Which .NET framework is installed? And check the system requirements against your server.

Just to let you know how I resolved this.... I went into sql server database tablle and deleted all of the smtp entires that had been brought across during the update process .... I was then able to edit and update the new smtp settings in DNN
