AuthCookies table

    I see we recently got a new table on the database called AuthCookies. I guess this is used by the new GDPR stuff introduced recently in DNN. But how does it work? What does the info on that table mean?

    On some clients websites we see that we have there thousands of records and the table is becoming quite large.

    Should the records here be deleted from time to time? Is that done already and I just didn't find where?

      I had to double check, but no, it has nothing to do with GDPR. From the looks of it these are regular cookies for web authentication.

        I am looking at a public site with approaching 200K records. If it doesn't clear regularly, I can see this growing to mammoth size

          We have a public site with 1,7 million records in AuthCookies that uses 1.4 GB in the database, all created in the last 18 months.
          Are there any best practices how to handle this?

          AuthCookies was introduced in DNN 9.2.0

            Meanwhile we have 2.2 million records in AuthCookies requiring 1.8 GB. Can we delete old records without risk?

              Yes, I've added it to our list of maintenance queries where we clear out old records regularly

                FYI - The core of DNN really should be managing this for us all. We're discussing this in the bi-weekly Technology team meeting right now. Hopefully, we can have an issue created in GitHub and get this resolved soon - instead of people needing to manually clean this up in any way.

                  We're just discussing it at the MVP meeting - here some insights:

                  Seems to be an oversight. Peter said he would have a quick look at it ;)
