    Hello,

I am trying to get one ancient website from 05.06.xx to latest version if that will be even possible.
I started by suggested upgrade path in test environment which worked up to 06.02.08.
The current version is hosted on IIS10/SQL2017 and .NET 4.6.2 framework, which amazingly works...

Since 7 is the version with transfer to .NET 4.0, I guess my issue may be there.
I copy the upgrade files from 07.04.02 and switch apppool to .NET 4.0.

While I try to visit upgrade URL, I get following error:

[A]System. Web. Configuration. ScriptingAuthenticationServiceSection cannot be cast to [B]

System. Web. Configuration.ScriptingAuthenticationServiceSection. Type A originates from

'System. Web. Extensions, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' in the

    context 'Defaulť at location

    'C:\Windows\Microsoft.Net\assembly\GAC MSIL\System.Web.Extensions\v4.0_4.0.0.0__31bf3856ad364e\System.Web.Extensions.dlľ.
    Type B originates from 'System. Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0,

Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' in the context 'Defaulť at location

    'C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\System. Web.Extensions\3.5.0.0 31bf3856ad364e35\System.Web.Extensions.dlľ.

I also got warning about encrypted logon in event log, but since that is introduced in "working" state of version 7 I guess the does not concern me yet.

    Thank You for any suggestions

I guess the interesting thing here is that the errors come from the GAC. My guess here is that you need to clear out the GAC. Restarting IIS and/or restarting the web publishing service might be enough before you look into removing assemblies from the GAC.

Do you have an old reference to System.Web.Extensions v3.5 somewhere in Web.config?

          Thank You for suggestion.

          I have found out following:
Reboot IIS or VM does not change behaviour.
GAC has 4.0 version and 3.5 version of the assembly.
I have tried to uninstall .NET 3.5 which got me rid of 3.5 assembly, but website message was only changed in regard, that it wants the 3.5 version and that assembly is missing...

          Could You advise further please?

Oh I havent thought of web.config references, thank you!

Since this was 5.x version of DNN there are a lot of 3.5 references.
I guess I can compare clean install web.config with my current one.
