We are just looking into a 500 error for part of a page and on looking at the logs under Manage --> Admin Logs we have lots of blank entries with no error message. Can anyone point us in the direction of resolving this? Thanks.

      Hi,

did you check the Windows event log and/or the IIS logs to get more information?

      Happy DNNing!

Also, check DNN's log4net logs. They are .resources files and are in /portals/default/logs. They are text files. If you don't find what you need, you may want to configure log4net (look in the installation root for DotNetNuke.log4net.config) for configuration settings. You can look to Microsoft's log4net documentation for logging options.

Just in case it helps you (and others that may read this), here's a video that helps to explain the two event/error log locations

You appear to be on an older version of DNN, so the Admin Logs feature is actually the Error (Event) Log feature you've posted the screenshot from.

Did you find a resolution to this?

We have seen this on a number of installations, I'm still trying to figure out what causes it, but as Joe Craig mentioned the actual error will be listed in the /portals/_default/logs folder

Sorry for the delay in replying, we were never notified of replies, perhaps a bug in new forum?.

This has suddenly stopped happening so we never got to the bottom of it. I think it may have been a permissions issue as there were no logs in /portals/_default/logs since the site was upgraded to DNN9. There are now logs in there but this error is no longer happening.

              Thanks for the pointers.

Are you saying that this was a file system permissions issue?
