    Hi everyone,

Would you please tell me what are the main benefits of the DAL2 comparing to the previous one?

The Context of the Quesion: It is a really challanging process in front of me. I have a web app based on DNN 6.2 and with a huge bespoke development (custome extension/module). The extension is not written very well, so I'll try to migrate the module to the latest DNN version 9.10.X and along the way I'll try to make some improvements.

So, right now I have to make a decision if I'll go with DAL or DAL2. My module is based on DAL.

DAL and DAL2 are totally different animals. If you Google "DNN DAL2" you will find some references. A good starting point is https://www.dnnsoftware.c...nity-blog/cid/142201 (the "temporary working link").

I'd suggest that you look at https://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/dal-2 and the references that it contains. Note that this is a good 10 years old.

Also look at DNN Documentation here at dnncommunity.org. https://docs.dnncommunity...e-data-layer---dal-2

For a good working example, take a look at Chris Hammond's DNN module templates. I think that you'll find a link at christoc.com, as well as here. There are other module templates at GitHub.

The good news is that modules that you have that use DAL will continue to work, except possibly you may have to update deprecated methods. So, it's probably better to get updated to the most recent version of DNN. Then, and only then, you can start to update your modules ... or rewrite them

In addition to Joe: DAL/DAL+ are the "older" models. DAL 2 is based on a micro-ORM called PetaPoco.

          Happy DNNing!
