    Jason,

as I already answered to your thread on the dnnsoftware.com site, let me repeat it here:

I would say no. He could do a design, present it and - when your client is satisfied with it - create an install package that you can upload as an extension to the web site. You then have to apply the skin (which could be a bit challenging when you have a large website and there is too much layout definitions on the page and/or the module containers, but is not a real problem), and that's it.

There is absolutely no need for a designer to gain administrative permissions, not for the work and not for installing.

And as Sebastian said there: "ask your guy about his knowledge on theming of DNN platform sites - I fear it is rather limited."

    Happy DNNing!

What do you mean by "file system access"? (Once again, forgive me, I only know wordpress).

It means you need to be able to get to the files via FTP, or some other route (e.g. Windows Explorer if you're running DNN locally).

      Olly,

sorry, this is something you can do in a development environment, but NOT on a production site with a third party. I would never ever allow anyone who is not responsible for the site to access the DNN installation on a production site with FTP or inside the Windows file system.

If an "Upwork guy" has to change the theme (skin), I would give him a copy of the skin (or an install package, if available), let him do the work (and that includes creating an install package), test it in a testing or development environment and install it when everything is fine.

      Happy DNNing!
      Michael

Michael Tobisch - I completely agree. I'd misunderstood what was being asked for here :)

At this stage I would just request the current guy to give you the files and switch to a developer that knows DNN to implement it properly as a packaged DNN theme. If it is not rush, send me a message but I currently have about 2 weeks wait...
