Announcements Module 7.3.0 Released

Written By Will Strohl

Did you know that there's a new release of the official Announcements module for DNN?  Well, you do now! The announcements module has long been a primary way for new DNN websites to add the ability to have a news - or dare I say "announcements" - section/feature on their DNN website.  So, yes. This module does exactly what it sounds.  Here's what is new...

Now, I know that it's not easy keeping up with updates out there, so I'll be speaking to the past two releases and not just the release that was just published.

The most recent two releases are version 7.2.5 and 7.3.0.  Here are the updates that were applied to these two releases.

Announcements 7.2.5

Telerik Removed

In short, this means that your website is that much closer to being able to remove Telerik, if you haven't already done so.  This release removes that security issue from this module so you can remove it from DNN entirely.  You can read more about why this is important in the DNN docs.

Minimum Support of DNN Raised to 9.4

This release raised the required version of DNN to 9.4 and newer.  So you'll need to at least upgrade to DNN Platform 9.4.0 to install or upgrade this version of the module.

Announcements 7.3.0

Minimum support DNN Raised to 9.11

This release raised the required version of DNN to 9.11 and newer.  So you'll need to at least upgrade to DNN Platform 9.11.0 to install or upgrade this version of the module.

NewtonSoft Support Raised to 13.0

This update doesn't matter to most folks, but it's a meaningful update for some developers and website owners. The version of NewtonSoft.Json was raised from 10 to 13 to match what's in DNN.  There wasn't really a reason to maintain the legacy reference.

Huge Thanks

It appears that all of the recent work done on these two releases were by Daniel ValadasDavid Poindexter, and Stéphane Tétard.  Please be sure to thank and/or sponsor each of them for their ongoing efforts to improve DNN for all of us.

I hope this helps you and your team with knowing when and if to upgrade your Announcements Module.

Thank you Will for the great blog post to raise awareness of all the great work going on in the community. And thanks to Daniel Valadas for organizing the co-coding session that made the latest release possible!
