Testing DNN 10

Written By Tycho de Waard (SU)

At DNN-Connect we had several sessions about DNN 10 (whoop, whoop!). One of the things I learned: you can actually testdrive DNN 10 already, even though it is not a release yet.

The easiest way is to use NVQuicksite (https://github.com/nvisionative/nvQuickSite and https://www.nvquicksite.com/) to install DNN 10. One of the settings if that you can also download beta releases or upload a local install.

And that is what we need. Only thing you need is the install file of a version that is not a release :-)
So, how do we find this install file?

Note: Credits to Barry Sweeney who explained how to me how to find this hidden gem.

  1. Go to https://github.com/dnnsoftware/Dnn.Platform

  2. Click the drop down arrow on the Develop button and select Release/10.0.0

  3. Click the tick after the description

  4. Click the Details link in the pop up box

  5. Click View more details...

  6. In the new window/tab, click the Published link

  7. Open the dropdown box by hovering over the right hand side and click the More Actions button and download the file

  8. In the Artifacts1 folder in the downloaded zip file you'll find the various install zips that you can use

Behold! Select the Install file and you have all you need to feed NVQuicksite and launch your first DNN 10.

Thanks for the credit Tycho, it was Daniel Valadas who showed me how to get there, so the credit goes his way too :)

Fantastic blog Tycho. Thanks for sharing this. For those reading this, I'll state the obvious just to make sure it is clear. Please do not install this for production use. Builds prior to release are prone to bugs, etc. ;-)
