Thanks to everyone who joined us online tonight and for all of you who are joining us now! We had a great set of presentations and participation from everyone involved. Take a look at what we talked about in the September 2020 meeting of the SouthernFried DNN User Group!

DNN Community News and Updates

There were a couple of points mentioned... maily that you can always get updates and info on what's new with DNN at the DNNCommunity website!

  • Will Strohl spoke for a moment about the recent adoption of the .NET Foundation Code of Conduct across the board within the DNN community. You'll find links to it in many places, but here's a quick link for you to check out: https://dotnetfoundation.org/about/code-of-conduct
  • Danial Valadas spoke briefly about the recent DNN 9.7.1 release and some issues that need to be allowed for when upgrading from previous versions of DNN
    https://github.com/dnnsoftware/Dnn.Platform/releases/tag/v9.7.1
Because of this, you either need to pay close attention to the release notes and instructions OR you can wait and upgrade to the soon-to-release (this monday) DNN 9.7.2 which will address these issues for a smooth upgrade.
  • HEY! Will mentioned, as a part of all the fun backgrounds we were putting into the meeting backgrounds, that UNSPLASH is a great source for royalty-free high-quality stock photos to use in sites, designs, presentations and more https://unsplash.com/

Ash Prasad talks about the NEW DNN Store Update!

Ash Prasad joined us for a segment to provide a status on a new DNN Store. Inquiring minds - vendors, integrators, and customers alike - want to know the status, so watch to check out the DNN Store future!

This presentation, interview and community chat quesitons included topics regarding the new store such as:

  • Will current Users have their downloads, past purchases and order history be migrated and maintained?
  • What newsletter signup is implied in the new store demo?
  • What is this new store built within? Why is it not built within DNN and existing DNN eCommerce solutions?
  • How are the Support Tickets handled in the new system?
  • Will current Vendors and their current products be migrated automatically to the new store?
  • Will there be any new APIs available from this store system such as APIs to bulk update a Vendor's products?
  • Will there be any new APIs for displaying store content and products on external sites?
  • Will there be replacements for the product purchase APIs and notifications from the current store system that are currently part of many Module Vendor's licensing systems?
  • What features might not come over to the new store system?
  • Currently images within product details are "self-hosted", will the new store support hosting the product images within the store system?
  • Will the new system support downloads and patches both?
  • Will the new store system support subscription purchases and/or other types of products and services to be posted?
  • When will the new vendor pricing model described by former ESW head of DNN Corp at the community event DNN Summit 2019 of moving from a 25% to a 5% cut go into effect?
  • What is the projected launch date for the new store?
  • Is there a future plan for integration of the store and content into DNN?
  • DNN Corp described increasing the volume of customers and vendors within the store, what are the plans for this? What marketing plans and promotion efforts from DNN Corp are expected?
We'll post the answer to this very important one here... for the rest you'll need to watch the video! Ash finished the presentation by saying that he hoped to have a release ready for the end of October 2020!

Salesforce Integration with DNN

This month's primary speaker, SoFried's very own Clint Patterson joins us to share how to integrate DNN with Salesforce. He walks us through creating a Connected App in Saleforce. Then he shows us how to use the OAuth 2.0 protocol in a DNN module to retrieve Salesforce data and display it within DNN. Be sure to watch the video on this one, it's true southern hospitality style!

Here, too, are a few links from elements covered in the presentation:
