Hello Everyone,

I have just noticed that while installing DNN Version 09.04.00(0) we do not get to specify "Object Qualifer". Has that been dropped from the Installation Wizard? Or is it me who is missing something?

Many thanks in advance.

Thanks
Dev

Devashish,

an object qualifier is used for sharing one database to different DNN installations (each with a unique object qualifier). When using this, you get different tables in the database for each installation with the object qualifier prefixed, e.g. oq1_Users, oq2_Users etc. for the Users table.

The need for this has become very low, as nowadays the providers do not charge for each database anymore. I am not sure (as I have not installed DNN 9.4.0 yet because of a lack of time), but I think that this feature became hidden with this version (which would make sense for me). If there is a need for it (on a fresh installation), it can be added to the web.config before starting the installation process, and for existing installations it is already there and used (Upgrade package = Install package without web.config).

Happy DNNing!
Michael

if you still need an objectQualifier, you may enter it manually into the web.config file prior to the installation, but this feature is deprecated and might get removed in a future version of DNN.

And to add some context to the decision, many people just put something in there not knowing the implications :) So removing it from the UI as a first step appeared to be a good solution for people to not do it without really needing it.
