Fail to Install DNN 9.8.1

Hi All,

I am having issues installing the latest version of DNN 9.8.1. I have installed plenty of other versions successfully, I would like to see if theres any .NET framework updates or anything that may make this installation fail.

Receiving the "Server Error in '/' Application." - have set custom errors to Off and then it tells me to look at it remotely, but to no avail.

Not sure if there is anything new I should be doing since, DNN 9.3.2. have followed video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HybcKCWCj1Q using .NET Framework 4.7.2, SQL version 2008 

I can install DNN 9.8.1 on my localhost, it has .NET Framework 4.8. Thats the only difference I can see, should this matter? if so what version of DNN should i be using?

Installed .NET Framework 4.8 on my server, DNN 9.8.1 is now installing as it usually does :)

I think this should be noted somewhere before downloading this new update. (Hopefully I'm not blind and missed this)

Hopefully you would have found this if you check the requirements for installing at dnndocs.com. Right now it says 4.7.2+ at https://dnndocs.com/conte.../setup/requirements.

Also, items like this are called out in the release notes. When there are releases between the version you start with and the version you are using for the upgrade, it's always a good idea to check the release notes for the intermediate versions (the ones that you are skipping) and the final one.

The release notes for 9.8.1 could be a little clearer, but if you check the link in the single line that refers to changes in requirements for SQL Server and .NET, you would have found these.

All in all, though, I'm glad that you figured this out and were successful

Hi.

Thanks for this post I was trying to find the systems requirements for the latest release 9.8.1 but found the documentation only listed 9.4

Perhaps .Net requirement should be upgraded to 4.8+ seeing as 4.7.2 seems to have issues.
