    I have a new site I am building for a French organisation (non-commercial). I have installed 9.10.2.

I would like to have the internals in French as this will help understanding. I have found a FR-fr language pack in GitHub labelled version 9.9.1.

Will this mismatch of version numbers be a problem.

you should install the LP for 9.9.1, there might be a handful keys missing in administration (i.e. shown in English), but besides it should work fine.

I wish to make some wording changes to the Registration function. I refer to the screen text when the registration screen is displayed. Where in the language modules might I find this?

              Simon,

if I don't know where I can find a text I use Notepad++, the "Find in Files" function is quite useful. Set the filter to ".resx" filetype, and search for ">Text I can't find<", and search the root of your DNN installation including subdirectories.

(Maybe this is not the best way, but it works...)

              Happy DNNing!

                Michael,

It sounds great but I need to understand your underlying assumptions as to how you set things up.

I presume you have your site on a local server as I cannot find a way to open up the root folder of a working site and then the ability to search all files.

If that is the case then the proposed solution is not going to work for me but thanks for the hint.

                  Simon,

it does not matter if you search for that on a local (development) server or a production server. The point is to find the file that you want to change, and assuming I want to change the phrase "Reset Password" (button on the registration form) I do it like this: I open Notepad++, then I go to Search >> Find in Files (Ctrl + Shift + F), and enter the following:

                  • Find what: >Reset Password<
                  • Replace with: (leave empty)
                  • Filters: *.resx
                  • Directory: D:\Web\DnnRoot\ (or wherever the root of your DNN istallation is)
                  • Check "In all sub-folders"

Then I click the "Find All" button. This gives me the following result:

                  D:\Web\DnnRoot\admin\Security\App_LocalResources\SendPassword.ascx.resx (2 hits)
                     Line 145:  Reset Password
                     Line 196:  Reset Password
                  D:\Web\DnnRoot\DesktopModules\Admin\Security\App_LocalResources\ManageUsers.ascx.resx (1 hit)
                     Line 155:  Reset Password
                  D:\Web\DnnRoot\DesktopModules\AuthenticationServices\DNN\App_LocalResources\Login.ascx.resx (1 hit)
                     Line 139:  Reset Password

Then I use the localization (translation) editor on my site to correct these words in these file(s), either in another language or for the host or the portal - but not for "Global" if it's Englisch (US), because this could be overwritten by an update.

                  Hope that helps...

                  Happy DNNing!

                    Hi Michael,

Many thanks for the example. However I am "falling at the first fence".

Despite my many years IT experience I am struggling to see how a website of mine can appear as a local disc drive to my PC.

Please advise me in this blackspot of my knowledge.

                    Regards

                      Simon,
the option provided by Michael require file access to your website - either directly, or by downloading the website directory to your local machine. If this is not an option for you, you may just unzip (hierarchically) the language pack to your local disc and search inside the target folder.
