Congrats on posting!

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to optimize Cloudflare caching for my DNN 10.1.2 website, azmanagedit.com, but I’m noticing that Cloudflare is only caching about 11% of all requests. For reference, here are my last 24-hour stats:

  • Unique Visitors: 1.7k
  • Total Requests: 28.4k
  • Percent Cached: 11.23%
  • Total Data Served: 569 MB
  • Data Cached: 64 MB

This seems very low compared to what I’d expect, even for a dynamic CMS like DNN. I’m trying to understand what might be preventing Cloudflare from caching more content, or whether this is normal behavior for DNN sites.

What I’ve already checked

  • Cloudflare caching is set to Standard, with typical static assets enabled.
  • DNN is configured normally (no special cache-control settings added manually).
  • No special Cloudflare rules yet (no “Cache Everything” rule applied).
  • The site works fine overall, but the low cache rate seems odd given the amount of traffic.

What I’m trying to figure out

  • Does DNN send headers or responses that prevent Cloudflare from caching HTML or other assets?
  • Is Cloudflare typically only able to cache CSS/JS/images on DNN sites unless “Cache Everything” is explicitly enabled?
  • Is there a recommended Cloudflare configuration for DNN 10+?
  • Are there module or theme patterns that commonly block caching?
  • Is ~11% caching normal for DNN without custom cache rules?

Why I’m asking

I’m getting 1.7k unique visitors a day, so improving caching could significantly reduce server load and speed up delivery. Before I start applying aggressive Cloudflare page rules like “Cache Everything,” I want to be sure I’m not breaking anything, especially since DNN is sensitive with logins, ViewState, and module output caching.

I’d love to hear from anyone who has tuned Cloudflare with DNN or has insight on what kind of cache percentages are typical.

Thanks in advance!

Joseph

Congrats, your posts are really liked!
I've struggled with this too. And when I "force things" I've regretted it and had to undo. I'd definitely like to see if others have any insights.
