New to DNN and I want to email a link out to our website so people can give me their email addresses so we can send them a PDF of a slide deck from a symposium. It's kind of like the old - email for whitepaper...
I would go with an extension like Live Forms (Mandeeps). SImple to use and stable.
That's a great bit of advice from Tycho. I'd suggest the same, unless you want to build something, either from scratch or by using a structured content module.
