My site's current registration form uses out-of-the-box DNN functionality (9.7.2) and simply displays the basics: Display Name, Email Address, User Name, Password, Password Confirmation and Security Code. Yesterday, a blind user tried to use the form and wasn't able to get past the security code field, since it requires the user to actually read the characters embedded into the image displayed. I hadn't noticed this before, but not providing a means by which a visually-impared user can register with a DNN portal seems like a significant oversight.
Does anyone know of a fix to this (a way to add an audio component to the Security Code registration field)? Or, will I need to invest in a third-party module to provide such functionality (assuming one exists)?
Thank you for speaking about this feature. This is one of the areas that I've been lobbying for getting switched to a provider model. This very old CAPTCHA feature has been kind of obsolete for more than ten years in my opinion. Anyone technically savvy enough can get around it, and it doesn't employ any of the more recent innovations around CAPTCHA.
Ideally, what I'd like to see is a provider model implemented in this area, with this being the default since you can just turn it on and it mostly works... But then have an out-of-the-box provider with ReCAPTCHA for all other scenarios. This will also allow others to implement any other CAPTCHA provider they wish to use in the future.
In the meantime, I'd suggest replacing the login/registration feature with Mandeeps Live Forms or any other forms/login/registration provider that also allows you to use ReCAPTCHA (or something like it). :)
FYI - I just created a fresh issue for this feature since it's been a while. :) https://github.com/dnnsof...Platform/issues/4409
