I have a tricky situation!

I haven't needed to edit my DNN website for 18months - 2 years, but the last time I did it was to update a customised control which I now want to update again.

I can successfully log on as Host, but none of the superuser icons actually work, not even "About" so I can't even tell what version it's running, although the latest upgrade file I have *locally* seems to be DNN_Platform_9.2.2.178_Upgrade.zip.

Can anyone suggest any way to get me back in?
Thanks for any advice

Ade

did you try using a different browser?

Yes! I tried Chrome, Edge and Firefox on Windows 11 and Safari on Mac Ventura.

The website, to all intents and purposes, still works fine for non-admin users, bar the fact that it doesn't display the compromised control on one page. Login "works", and the standard admin icons appear, but they simply do nothing.

Congrats on posting!

Can you please provide more details about what is and isn't working?  I'm not completely sure that I know what you mean by superuser icons, for example.

Also, how is your login workflow configured?

Do you have any related errors in your event log(s)?

Thank you for your reply.

In order to edit the DNN site I used to log in as Host, or another admin account, and then (in version 9.x at least) a column of icons would appear on the left of each "normal" page. These are titled "Content" (with Content/Pages, Content/Recycle Bin as sub-items), "Manage" (Manage/Users, Manage/Roles, Manage/Site Assets ... etc), "Settings" (Settings/Site Settings, Settings/Security, Settings/SEO ... etc) and finally, at the bottom the LH column, the pencil icon for editing the page. All these icons appear when I log in with an admin account, they show the sub-items when I hover over them, but nothing happens when I click on any of them.

I can't look at the error-logs via the normal method (as Manage/Admin Logs doesn't work!). If there are error log files which I can access via the file system, then hopefully I can access those, but it's been so long since I used DNN I'm afraid I can't see any obvious candidates. Could you point me at the error files at least?

Thanks again.

PS Sorry - I just noticed that your "related errors..." is a hyperlink! I'm watching the video now...

Hello:

The video I linked to shows you where the file-based log files can be found.  :)

One more question, sorry...  Do you see any errors in the console of the web developer tools?

OK - many thanks for your link to the video.

I now see that almost forever, there have been messages logged every 20 minutes from an EasyDNNSolutions Mailchimp module, as follows:

2023-04-14 00:01:31,936 [ws166][Thread:45][ERROR] DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.Exceptions - System.Web.HttpException (0x80004005): Could not load type 'EasyDNNsolutions.Modules.EasyDNNmailChimpPlus.Scheduler.Campaign.EasyDNNnewsCampaign'.
at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetType(String typeName, Boolean throwOnError, Boolean ignoreCase)
at DotNetNuke.Services.Scheduling.ProcessGroup.GetSchedulerClient(String strProcess, ScheduleHistoryItem objScheduleHistoryItem)
at DotNetNuke.Services.Scheduling.ProcessGroup.Run(ScheduleHistoryItem objScheduleHistoryItem)
2023-04-14 00:01:32,952 [ws166][Thread:39][ERROR] DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.Exceptions - System.Web.HttpException (0x80004005): Could not load type 'EasyDNNsolutions.Modules.EasyDNNmailChimpPlus.Scheduler.User.Subscription'.
at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetType(String typeName, Boolean throwOnError, Boolean ignoreCase)
at DotNetNuke.Services.Scheduling.ProcessGroup.GetSchedulerClient(String strProcess, ScheduleHistoryItem objScheduleHistoryItem)
at DotNetNuke.Services.Scheduling.ProcessGroup.Run(ScheduleHistoryItem objScheduleHistoryItem)

However, these have been happening throughout the site's history, at least since I installed the Mailchimp module, despite the fact that I used it successfully for years! If I can ever get back in to edit the site and restore my calendar module, then I'll try and discuss these error with EasyDNNSolutions.

If I try NOW to access the icons, I get no other error messages added to the _default/Logs directory.

Erm ... when you say "console of the web developer tools..." the only web development I have ever done on this site is via logging in to DNN and editing the DNN site directly. So when you mention the web developer tools console, what are you referring to? Sorry if I am being a bit slow, but it's been a long time! The website is for a music club, but we had to close down for Covid in early 2020 and I haven't touched it since, hence the very poor memory of how it all used to work!

Sorry, as Timo mentioned, you can press to open the web developer tools in your web browser.

Be sure the Console tab/view is open.  Then, reload the page and/or reproduce the error to see if any errors are reported.
