Congrats on posting!

Hi,

I was wondering if there is a way to LOCK an asset folder? We had a situation recently where someone accidentally deleted a folder (lots of meeting documents in PDF format). Luckily our IT Manager was able to retrieve it, but can this be done through the portal, locking a folder? I know one can lock folders on a server with read-only permissions.

Any protective measures and solutions would be great!

Hello!

The best way to "lock" a folder from someone being able to perform undesired actions is to apply this via permissions. In a more complex scenario with the core of DNN, you may have two different roles for a specific folder. For example, if you had a Marketing folder to protect, you may both
Marketing-Content-Viewer
and
Marketing-Content-Editor
role for members of Marketing. This would allow you to apply the desired permissions only to those who know when to delete a folder (and not).

Aside from that, there is the possibility of reverse engineering the granular permissions of the folder and then applying that to the site. This is something Evoq has, but doesn't really have an updated & publicly available provider out there right now.
