Congrats, your posts are really liked!

Hi guys,

This is a first time for me, I'm getting this error in the Admin Logs when trying to create a new page with or without a page template

"The transaction log for database 'tempdb' is full due to 'ACTIVE_TRANSACTION' and the holdup lsn is (7543:25344:76)."

I tried to create the page three times and got the same error, after clearing cache, restarting the application and resetting the application pool I saw the same page created three times in the page section in the Persona Bar. I tried to delete the duplicated pages and I got the same error.

Any ideas how can I fix this?

Current website version is v. 10.02.01

Regards,

I have seen similar when the database recovery mode is not "simple" and does not have any maintenance plan to clear its transactions log.

However you case is a bit different because it is on "tempdb" which I believe is hardcoded for "simple" recovery.
Could tempdb be stored on a drive that is almost full, or could "auto-grow" not be enabled maybe?
If both are not the case, maybe a simple SQLServer restart could help...

I can't post SQL in the forums, but Microsoft has a support acticle to find long ongoing transactions, which could also be some clue...

ACTIVE_TRANSACTION is usually an error when a transaction is ongoing for the tempdb, my first step would be what Daniel suggests. If that does not work, try looking for active/idle sessions. Ask ChatGPT, it should give you some SQL to find active sessions.

Thank you guys! I got into the admin logs today and I wasn't able to find the same error again but I did find more than 100 "Web Server Updated" events. Now I'm able to create pages from zero or using page templates with no errors.

For the "Web Server Updated" if you are not on a multi-server setup, you can turn that scheduled task to run way more often to not clutter your logs.
