Congrats on posting!

Dear Anyone,

We recently had to upgrade one of our portals to 9.6.1 (server was compromised due to a security problem) and we had to assign new passwords for two groups of people. It's a private site that requires a login and password. One group does not experience problems, however the other group has experienced problems. We have tested our 12 character password and deemed it ok, however, some users when trying to login &  get an access denied screen, even though they are actually logged in. The menu shows up and they are actually in the site, but the screen tells them differently. We also discovered that this group was able to change the profile and add personal names, etc. we had to turn this off and also make changes to the header in CSS to hide this feature. These "glitches" have occurred since we upgraded to 9.6.1. We were using 9.1.1 before and didn't have this problem. These are random and do not make sense. Has anyone experienced any of this and how do we fix or solve this problem? It isn't professional and doesn't reflect well on us. I have including a screen capture. You'll notice the menu shows up.

Let's see if we can get to the bottom of this.
1. Did you check the admin log? What does it say?
2. Did you check the page where one is redirected after login? It could be that that page is not accessible for certain roles
3. Probably not, but just to rule it out: it might be that content (module) is not accessible on a page that is accessible

This is what the admin logs indicate (operation failure)

07/16/2020 17:08:22

HTTP Error Code 404 Page Not Found

members.nafo.int

TabId 465 PortalAlias members.nafo.int OriginalUrl /NAFO-Members-Welcome R

The odd thing is that the user is in the site (see the navigation shows up) but this message indicates they are not. All they have to do is click the home button, which is the logo, and they are in.

Please check that unauthorized visitors are able to navigate to and view the login page. I'm assuming that the screen shot is what you get instead of the login page.

The exact scenario is if I accidentally type in the wrong login/pw, an error will show up. That is to be expected. If I type the correct login/pw, the odd error shows up, even though I am now in the website as an administrator. It's like a bug, it didn't go away, it kind of hangs there, unnecessarily. One has to click on the logo (home button) to clear it. The same thing happens to a user who only has reading privileges.

This was solved when we discovered that there was a splash page created several years ago, but was in the recycle bin. Once we retrieved it, the login behaviour behaved normally again.

Good to hear you fixed it and thank you for reporting back on this :-)
