Hi! I am currently upgrading our site from 4.9.5 to 9.x. The upgrade path now works technically, without problems but after 4.9.5 to 6.2.8 the site comes up with the default skin. We have several problems with the old skin, for example it does not support tablets and mobiles the way we want it to. Also it looks a bit like pages looked like 10 years ago. Can we somehow patch our old skin an make it work again or what is the best solution to this? At least to buy us some time before we have a new skin working. The current skin is not even using a menu. The menu is part of the HTML/ASCX template. There is just around 10 different templates with different column layouts, like 1 column, 2 column, 3 column that we can choose from when creating a new page.

Thank you for any hints!

Andreas

You can fix your skin wto work in DNN 9 normally, although the Menu could be an issue. Solpart Menu has been removed, if that's in use, replace it in the skins ascx files as described here:

https://www.dnnsoftware.c...i/ddrmenu-user-guide

The other thing you need to do is fix your containers (the ascx files). Any reference to solpart should be removed and they should continue to work.

Please make sure that if you change your ascx files, that (if they exisit) you remove the correcponding htm files. (or you risk overwriting your changed ascx files when DNN tries to parse the htm files)

Thank you Timo. I will try that. I think we have container ASCX files as well and I will check all of them.

Two recommendations: 1. Upgrade to 9.4.1. Hopefully you'll be able to upgrade all of the modules you use, or you'll be able to replace them. 2. Invest in a new theme/skin. It's a great way to get rid of that 10 year old look an feel. Most themes can be modified (color, layout, placement of items) to match what you want. If you are more of a hands-on person and you understand DNN theming, you might consider on the the free themes like nvQuickTheme or the theme from 2sxc or another.

Thank you Joe. There is one more problem waiting for me going from 9.1.1 to 9.3.2. Will work on that next maybe and then try 9.4.1. Would then 9.3.2 -> 9.4.1 be the next recommended step? The recommended DNN upgrade path ends at 9.3.2 (https://www.dnnsoftware.c...ested-upgrade-path). Will checkout the themes/skins and most likely invest in pre-made one. I saw some cool skins also incorporating bootstrap, making it easy to add things like an accordion or tab control. Stuff that we currently do with style sheets and regular HTML.

Hopefully someone who knows the answer will answer definitively. Usually, going in smaller steps is ok( except when it isn't).

I've already done some 9.3.2 to 9.4.1 upgrades with no evident issues. But, as always, test before on a non-production site and make sure of having a backup of your site before applying anny upgrade.

Thank you! Going from 9.3.2 to 9.4.1 worked flawless. :)
