Hi guys, was just curious. We have a TON of upgrades needing done that range from version 9.1 to 9.3 that we need to bring up to 9.6. Problem is there are so many prequisit stuff that gets lost in the upgrades and its hell trying to bring everything back online (restores). So, I was wondering if there was a utility that you can run that will check the versions, .NET, incomatble modules, etc.... Would like something to run pre-upgrade so that we dont run into production issues when doing this @ 2 in the morning.

AFAIK something like that does not exist, we have our own checklist, but they are limited to the modules we use and there are many others out there..

 

 

"Most" of the issues are going to be modules that are not compatible with later versions of DNN. The breaking changes that resulted from removing deprecated api methods began at 9.2.0.

Os, your best bet, per installation, is to inventory the modules to determine what needs to be upgraded.

Same problem here... We upgraded most of our websites to DNN 962 and even 971 but It was quite a struggle with the modules (dnnharp, easydnn, dnngo, mandeeps, core modules etc.) that are not compatible with the latest DNN Version because of the removed deprecated api methods.

We decided never to perform an upgrade in production but make a local test copy and test the upgrade. Make a script/log with the modules that need an upgrade and make sure you do it in the right order.

We succeeded in all upgrades and had to rebuild (find an alternative module for) some modules that aren't supported anymore (dnn360 cissmenu, form master 2008, ventrian newsarticles, DNNSmart etc.)

Oke it took some time, but we get rid if the old modules and have secure, stable and high performance websites now.

There still is an issue with DNNSharp modules and the upgrade to DNN 9.7.1.
But DNNSharp will release a fix soon!

That's a very nice summary of what is involved, and perhaps it is also a case study in why it's a good idea to keep up with upgrades.

One thing that you can do is add module install/upgrade files to the appropriate folder(s) in the install directory.
