Actually, I have been using the option ot modify the portal folder name from day one.
I still do, on every multi portal installation, without any issues.

That is really good to know, as I can see how this would be helpful. I have always honestly seen it as a potential recipe for disaster. LOL

FYI, I think that in all thses years we have encountered one module that did not use the DNN API to get the PortalFolder but just assumed it would be the PortalID
IIRC think it was a helpdesk module (turtle ??) that is now discontinued.

FYI, you should definitely also check if there are no rules in the robots.txt file that block access to the location of the favicon.
