Hi Timo,

I somewhat agree with you that commercial entities invest in it, but if the application fails to meet current market demands, either a commercial entity will step in to address the issue, or the problem will persist.

The market demand is all over the place. Also, from personal experience, if you base that on RFPs and blogs, those are all people with opinions.  I haven't seen an RFP where one or many features are required as a showstopper, only to never be used or never implemented.

No one system can be everything to everyone.  For example, we also have clients on other custom apps, other .NET CMSs, etc.  But DNN still remains to be the 80 of the 80/20 rule for us on most projects.

As an agency, we actively promote DNN in all our solutions. However, I have a concern regarding its visibility outside the DNN community. If you check Upwork and other freelance platforms, DNN projects are almost nonexistent.

For on-demand, referral, and local customers, convincing them to use DNN is not an issue. As Will Strohl mentioned, many clients are primarily focused on the solution rather than the underlying technology. However, freelance customers on these platforms tend to be very specific about the technologies they require.

I recently came across an open-source Node.js CMS that has gained significant popularity. One of its key features is the automatic generation of web APIs for newly created entities, making it highly convenient for front-end developers by reducing their dependency on backend development.

This brings me to my main point—why not incorporate similar functionality into DNN’s core? While full-stack developers can build middleware for communication, front-end developers often face challenges when working with DNN. Enhancing DNN with such built-in features could improve adoption and make it more appealing to a broader developer audience.

Dear Will

In the local market, with direct customers, and referrals, we don’t face any issues regarding demand since clients primarily focus on the solution rather than the technology behind it. However, my concern is with online freelance platforms like Upwork and others, where DNN-related projects are almost nonexistent.
