Yes, i saw the issue.
I see now that the issue has a label 'Request for comments'.
And Valadas added a comment, November 19:

"This was discussed in #2863 and it includes a way to make it work using the .xml extension but using a url rewrite module that would create a new environment dependency on Dnn and it was agreed to not implement this in the core."
So ... don't know if it will be resolved ...

I expect it will be fixed in DNN, but I'm not in charge of the fix so I cannot guarantee you when or how it's fixed exacly.
There's a temporary workarond posted as a comment with the issue BTW.

Looks like there's no fix in 9.5 for the sitemap problem... right?
