Why I Love DNN and the DNN Community

Written By David Poindexter

Working with DNN has been a cornerstone of my professional journey for many years. In fact, my journey with DNN began before it was even called DNN. Over this time, one constant has been the thrill of learning something new nearly every day. It’s a testament to the depth and versatility of the platform, as well as the incredible people who make up its community. This constant growth is one of the many reasons why I love DNN and why I am so passionate about its future.

A Culture of Sharing Knowledge

One of the most remarkable aspects of the DNN ecosystem is the community’s openness and willingness to share knowledge. It’s a rarity in today’s tech world to find a group so ready to help each other succeed. Whether you’re troubleshooting a tricky module issue, planning a new implementation, or simply exploring what’s possible with DNN, there’s always someone willing to lend a hand or share their expertise.

Here are just a few examples that illustrate this spirit:

  • The DNN Community Forums: These forums are a treasure trove of knowledge, where seasoned veterans and newcomers alike can find answers, share insights, and collaborate. It’s not uncommon to see detailed responses to questions, often going above and beyond to provide clarity and actionable advice.

  • Open-Source Projects: The community is rich with contributors who freely share their time and skills to create open-source projects. Tools like 2sxc, OpenContentnvQuickSite, nvQuickTheme, Eraware Dnn TemplatesDNN Elements, and countless other extensions and tools are a direct result of this generosity. These projects help developers and site administrators save time, simplify processes, and achieve their goals.

  • DNN Events: Events like DNN Summit and DNN Connect bring the community together to learn, share, and grow. These gatherings foster collaboration and camaraderie, and they provide an opportunity for in-depth learning through workshops and presentations. Even virtual sessions often capture the warmth and excitement of the DNN community.

The Spirit of Helping

Another hallmark of the DNN community is the genuine desire to help. This isn’t just limited to answering questions or solving technical issues. It’s also about encouraging others to grow and succeed. Whether it’s a friendly nudge toward best practices, sharing lessons learned from a complex implementation, or simply providing moral support, the community’s willingness to help is inspiring.

A Personal Reflection

For me, being part of the DNN community has been a journey of constant discovery. Every new challenge is an opportunity to learn, and every interaction with the community reminds me of the power of collaboration. This ecosystem is more than just a platform; it’s a vibrant, supportive network of individuals who are passionate about building, sharing, and growing together.

Closing Thoughts

The DNN community exemplifies what’s possible when people come together with a shared vision and a willingness to help each other. It’s this culture of learning, sharing, and supporting one another that makes DNN more than just a tool—it’s a community that I’m proud to be a part of.

To all of you who contribute, collaborate, and inspire: thank you. You’re what makes DNN truly special. Let’s continue to learn, share, and grow together—one day, one project, and one connection at a time.

P.S. - I hope to see you all at DNN Summit 2025 and DNN Connect 2025!  It is not too late to register and participate in this wonderful community events!

100% Agree! David, what a great post! In the past I've worked in other systems and communities and never found a group who was so supportive of eachother's efforts. It's one of the best things about the DNN Community! It encourages us to keep connecting and sharing and giving back to each other in support and benefit of everyone's DNN efforts and activities.

I completely agree: the DNN community is truly unique for its spirit of sharing and collaboration. However, to keep growing and innovating, it’s essential to welcome more young developers. Community events and initiatives are the perfect opportunity to engage new talents, ensuring continuous development and an even brighter future for the platform.

I'd absolutely love to see more young participants at DNN Summit, DNN Connect, and other DNN community events. From my experience, everyone is always welcomed. If you have any ideas on how to spread the word to extend the invitation, I'll be happy to help! DNN is a great platform for so many different use cases and the technology stack support is awesome!

This community is so amazing that on the very rare occasions, I had to go to other shores, I felt like a snowflake triggered by the rudeness of their communities. DNN is the best! ❤
