Despite assigning the “Full” toolbar to the desired roles the “Basic” toolbar is still being displayed in the CKEditor. We need DNN Blog authors to see the “Full” tollbar when editing a blog.

Note the following:

The “Full” toolbar IS displayed when I’m logged in as administrator.

I can edit the “Basic” toolbar to display more buttons and it work as intended even for those users who are not admininstrtors.

Hello Allen, sometimes it is a cache issue. Try restarting the browser in 'private' mode and/or empty the cache in DNN.

Unfortunately, no joy, first thing I tried, been “around the block”. Besides, as I noted, I am seeing changes/customizations to the “Basic” toolbar, so if it was caching one would think that would be “broke” too.

I suspect it is “broke” right here in this very Blog in which I typing this very reply, otherwise why would you only have the “Basic” tool configured? Missing what would be consider basic editing functions like: underline, Super/Subscript, text alignments etc…

Nope its broke, see if you can get it to work here.

The version you run is old, it was released on Oct 20, 2021. I would at least update to https://github.com/dnnsof...eleases/tag/v9.13.9. That is the last version before DNN 10.

If you do a search on CKeditor (https://github.com/search...ckeditor&type=issues you will find issues that where found after the release of the version you run.

You should really keep your instance of DNN current. There is a good reason why new versions are released.

It may sound a very basic question but can you confirm that the CKEditor gets updated along with everything else when you update DNN versions.

Unless the DNN version is very old I don't upgrade for an issue such as this unless the upgrade is known to fix it. The upgrades often cause more harm than good requiring the whole site to be retested.

As I said before, it appears to me this very Forum exhibits this problem because all I see here too is the basic toolbar. Why? Who is the "webmaster"? To make my point I can’t even underline text in this paragraph because the “basic” toolbar lacks the button for it.

This is actually a very good question. In DNN we use CKEditor as the default editor and that package 'sometimes' gets updated as part of a new DNN version. So anything you want to change in the CKeditor is not really related to DNN except for the Html Editor Manager. That is a provider within DNN that allows you to configure the behavior of the CKEditor in DNN. The Html Editor Manager is part of DNN and gets updated if needed.

For specific issues with the CKeditor you need to go to WYSIWYG HTML Editor with Collaborative Rich Text Editing

And for those wondering why we have not upgraded to CKeditor 5 pls read [Enhancement]: Replace CKEditorProvider with a New Provider · Issue #5795 · dnnsoftware/Dnn.Platform and DNN-Connect Brainstorm: WYSIWYG Editor - DNN Open Source

Allen, there are very good reasons why you should not use outdated versions of software. Regardless what it is you must stay current, read Security Policy · dnnsoftware/Dnn.Platform · GitHub
