Hello to All,

i'd like your help with regards to an issue i'm facing. I'm totally newby to DNN but i need to find a solution.

We had a old website with name "domain.com" under DNN 4.8.2 with IP:10.10.10.1. We've created a new one but we wanted to keep the old website for historical reasons, so we've created a subdomain "old.domain.com".

We've redirected the "domain.com" to the new IP on a new host, and we've kept the old IP:10.10.10.1 to point on the historical site "old.domain.com".

Our old machine has IIS 6.0 and WinServer 2003.

We are changing the Host Header Value under IIS> Web site> Properties> Web site>Web site identification>IP Address> Advanced from domain.com to old.domain.com

Hitting http://old.domain.com we can see the home page of the historical website but every page is redirecting to the new website, i.e. instead of "old.domain.com/Default.aspx?tabid=104" it's turning to "domain.com/Default.aspx?tabid=104" and of course this page does not exist.

Could you please advise how can i accomplish to preserve the historical website without sending me all times to the new one?

Thank you in advanced for all your help.

1. DNS should be configured so that old.domain.com is pointed to the old website.
2. IIS for the old website should be bound to old.domain.com
3. In DNN, the portal alias for the old website should be set to old.domain.com

Dear Joe,

Items 1 and 2 have been made. Could you please advise how to set the portal alias in DNN?

Thank you,

Go to Admin, Site Settings and then look for the Advanced Settings tab. Open the Site Aliases section and add an alias for old.domain.com. Make it primary.

Because requests for domain.com will never reach this installation, you can choose to leave the existing site aliases there.

----------------
It's possible that you won't be able to do this if existing redirection takes you to the new site. In that case, you will need to get into your database and edit the PortalAlias table to add old.domain.com as an alias.

Dear Joe,

i cannot access the admin side as you have correctly pointed since the redirection has took place. Could you please check the screenshot and point me the correct section to add the value you've advised?

Thank you,

Kostas

Add a row to the table. Typically you would be able to do this using SQL Server Management Studio. Right click on the table and choose "Edit Top 200 Rows." Enter the PortalID and the new alias "old.domain.com" or whatever the actual old domain name is. Match the PortalID with what is there. That's it.

You'll probably have to restart the IIS App Pool.
