Moving this post over from the old forum:

We are testing out a site upgrade to DNN 9.2.2 and can't seem to get an indication of when a modules permissions are set to admin only.  I see settings to Hide the Admin Only border but checking or unchecking that option makes no difference.    We need to be able to see at a glance without double and triple checking the module settings that a module is set to admin only permissions.

I tried changing the theme to some of the DNN included themes, Cavalier and Xcillion specifically, but the Admin only indication is still missing.

there should be a text on top of the module

The red admin border was removed a long time ago... I'm thinking in DNN 6? The label for that setting was never changed for some reason, but there's still a UI component to it. You should see a "module message" when a module is only visible by administrators.

        "Visible to Administrators Only"

If that's missing from your website, then there is likely CSS applied to the website somewhere to hide module messages. Since you've changed themes and still may not be seeing it, then the CSS in question is either in a module or skin object that's on all pages, or in the Portal.css.

Yeah I've seen the blue box before so I know what I should be seeing.  The site before upgrading is on version 07.03.04 (45) and the blue Admin notification shows up fine in our skins.   The message is in a Div with classes dnnFormMessage and dnnFormInfo.   I have a different site that is DNN Platform v9 and I see the Admin box there with the same div and class format.

On my upgraded test site Evoq Basic v9.2.2 I don't see that div at all.  Is the format still the same?

Interesting... The way that message is displayed hasn't been changed in DNN Platform 9.2.2. This could be different in Evoq.

Just an idea... Does this happen on all pages? Have you tried duplicating this on a clean page? For example... create a new page and apply the default theme to it. Only place an HTML module on it and make that module only visible to administrators. This should help with the troubleshooting.

I just built a new page and put Xcillion skin and container on the page.  Added new module and set to admin only.  Still no sign of the Admin message

If you look at the module permissions it has the Admin, Content Editors and Content Managers roles locked off for all functionality options.  I'm assuming that's a correct default setting.

This continues to sound like someone modified something. Perhaps try checking the portal.css?

But wouldn't the div containing the "Visible by Administrators Only" still be present when you inspect?

That's a good point.  If this were purely a CSS thing, then this should be in the markup.  So, this leaves two obvious possibilities off of the top of my head...

                      1. The module/page is actually visible to more than only administrators.
                      2. An installed module/HTTP module/handler is removing the HTML from the markup output.

If #2 is the cause, then it will be difficult/time-consuming to track down.
