    Hi,

I am trying to create a DNN site in a Azure App Service Deployment Slot by backing up an existing DNN site and restoring it to the Slot. It is similar to backing up a DNN site and restoring it to another web server for those unfamiliar with Azure App Service Deployment Slots.

Reason I want to do this is to perform an upgrade of the site.

I have backed up the SQL DB and all files, configurations etc on the existing DNN production App Service and restored it successfully however when I navigate to the site, I get the error below.

    Server Error in '/' Application.

Type 'ASP._Page_Index_cshtml' does not inherit from 'System.Web.WebPages.WebPage'.

Any ideas on how I can resolve this. Thanks in Advanced.

Well, all of the issues I've run into when upgrading instances of DNN in Azure deployment slots have revolved around increasing and decreasing the resources in the Web App Service (and/or database).  The error you've posted is not necessarily related to Azure itself.  If you do the upgrade from end-to-end locally, do you still see this error message?  It sounds like a step may have had a mistake or been missed altogether.

Again, to be clear, there are logistical and resource challenges when upgrading DNN in Azure web apps, but they're not a big deal in most cases.  They can sometimes be a bit more time-consuming though.  Up your resources before attempting any of the upgrade steps, then scale them back after it's done.  Beyond that, everything should be mostly the same.

Another final tip that's especially important in Azure is regular maintenance.  Be sure to keep up with maintaining all of the log entries/files, and other artifacts in your website as it continues to grow.  In a scaled environment like this, it's extra important to do and keep up with.
