    I tested the site messaging on one of my colleagues, by sending him a message without telling him.

    The response the next day was "Do you know how I can get rid of the (1) behind my name?"
    IMO this means we at least need an icon or extra text on the top right of the skin.

    Also when you do click the link it's very difficult to see that you have a message IMO.
    I'm not sure, but can we open with messages first after you clicked this?
    (now you have to know that you need to click the messages button on the right)

      Yes, there should be a more obvious way of notifiying about pending messages. I suggest icon and an extra text (similar to the warnings when your account isn't verified).

        Probably a blue badge with an envelope and a circle with the number of message... Something like this but envelope instead of text https://getbootstrap.com/....0/components/badge/
