    Description:
We are currently running DNN version 7.04.02.

For quite sometime we have had the "critical update" required flagged at the top of the menu bar, however we haven't actioned this due to concerns about disrupting our business and/or some modules not performing at later versions of DNN.

We would now like to update to secure us from the potential security risks that now exist, and we have some questions as to how to do this.

    1. Is there a tutorial available that shows how to update?
    2. Should we update one version at a time, i.e. from v7 to v8, then from v8 to v9 etc.
    3. If we discover that one of our modules does not work on a DNN version that we upgrade to, is it possible to "roll back" to the previous version of DNN that did work.

thanks in advance for your assistance.

      Hi,

      2. You should do some steps to be sure of everything upgrading correctly: https://www.dnnsoftware.c...ggested_upgrade_path
      3. No, there's no rollback available, but you an always return to a previous version, as you must have backed up your DNN installation prior to any mayor change ;-)

To add to Francisco's excellent answer ...

You will need to upgrade modules to current versions. This will be expecially true when you get to DNN 9 versions.

You should make a copy of your DNN installation and, when it is done to your satisfaction, use that to replace your production installation.

As Francisco pointed out, you should follow the upgrade path. I would add that, after you test an upgrade, that you make a backup of that version. Then, if a subsequent upgrade step fails, you only have to go back a little bit.

If this seems a bit too complicated, possibly if you have custom modules, you may want to use the services of a person or company who has great experience in upgrading DNN installations.

Finally, resolve to keep up with future upgrades so that you don't get this far behind again.
