searching for a common dnn topic recently i noticed that almost all of my searches showed dnnsoftware.com at the top of the list and dnncommunity.org is nowhere to be found.
i was searching for how to get the current portalsettings instance outside of a control or module. the result that i got from dnnsoftware.com was this from back in 2007 basically saying it could not be done.
https://www.dnnsoftware.c...tside-of-httpcontext
i tend to get this exact forum result each time i search for this question. yes i search for basic things literally all day. so i wanted to update the topic with new information to suit later versions of DNN to say you could potentially use:
DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalController.Instance.GetCurrentSettings()
but the forum is closed.
there appears to have been little thought about the migration to the new forum, there is no link to the same topic in the new dnncommunity.org forum, im not even certain that the topic was migrated to the new forum for that to be possible.
what you now have is quite a few incomplete topics or topics with old and incorrect information on the old forum that are frozen in time, cannot be edited, and are quite highly ranked so they tend to show up when people search for solutions to their DNN problems.
a basic solution might be migrating all topics to a suitable forum here on dnncommunity.org and using 301 redirects from the old ones? that could help kickstart better rankings for this forum.
You are right, but at the time the DNN platform code was "handed over" to the community and we started this site, migration of the forum was not an option, so we started a new Forum (politics). I agree it's not ideal for SEO and other reasons, but it just wasn't possible at the time so we just have to deal with the current situation.. :-(
As Timo mentioned, it was not possible then. I doubt it would be any different today, all things considered. Beyond that, we're all a community of volunteers. So, much like a mechanic, we're not always able to make our "car" look and run as well as we want to, because we're too busy doing that for all kinds of other people and companies.
Thank you very much for pointing these things out, though. It's very much appreciated. And, welcome to the community website! :)
