    Hi guys,

It seems that dnnsoft will not continue to develop the catalook (if you have any other information please let me know) and in fact recently their site is down.

Im looking for Catalook source code 7.3.5 or above. If someone could help, it would be highly appeciated.

Did they send out a communication to existing clients?  If so, what was in that communication?

Meanwhile, there are other viable e-commerce solutions within DNN.  Following are just a few:

      • Hotcakes Commerce (open source)
      • OpenStore (open source)
      • RevIndex (commercial)
      • Live Storefront (commercial)
      • Cart Viper (commercial)
      • DNNSmart Super Store (commercial)
      • RazorCart (commercial)

You may find one of these adequate for migration.

        Hi David,

No communication to their clients from their end. We are wondering what has happent and they are not responding to any email. Their website is down so its seems that their business has terminated.

Thank you very much from your proposals. We are reviewing these options for the best solution to our new customers.

Our major problem is how to support our existing customers with catalook.

If someone has available the source code from a recent release, we could purchase it.

Highly appeciated any feedback on this issue.

I wish I could help.  We stopped using Catalook many years ago and only have one client on it still.  They only have it to use the backend to run a highly customized custom Hotcakes Commerce storefront.  Sadly, no source code to share.  ☹️

This is always the problem when a company terminates and the sources are lost... I always wonder why these guys don't publish their code on GitHub (or whereever) when they loose their interest in making money with it. That could be very helpful for those who use it - and in the best case, there come some others along to further develop the product, or still keep it alive.

A very good example for that practice was Ventrian - and after they (or better "he") terminated their ("his") interest in selling DNN modules, 40fingers kept the products (NewsArticles, Simple Gallery...) alive at least for a while.

I know this does not help in this case at the moment, but maybe it is a plea to act like this for anyone - and maybe, by some crazy coinidence, someone of the ex-Catalook team is reading this... or someone who is reading this knows someone from the ex-Catalook team and tells him about this idea.

            Happy DNNing!

Totally agree, after being bit multiple times I know do not allow anything on any site that I can't have the source code for. I appreciate when vendors:
              1. Offer a source code version (more expensive)
              2. Have a licensing mechanism where your product does not just stop working if they disappear.

Indeed... Many years ago, DNN Corp had talked about providing this as a service in the DNN Store. Obviously, it never materialized. Though, I was in some of the meetings. The various US and international legalities were very complicated (and expensive) to navigate. It only makes good business sense to open-source the stuff. What is there to lose? There are only positives - many of which are already mentioned. :(

I agree 100% with these sentiments. It would be nice to have vendors that are going out of business just open-source their solutions so that existing clients are not left hung out to dry. I have seen a few vendors do this and it has worked out very well in the long run.

To the original poster, there may be some options to help through some developers in the community, but it will really depend on your specific use case. And this would most likely be a short-term fix. The right longer-term strategy, in my opinion, would be to migrate to an open-source solution where you know you will at least have the source code. :)
