Is it possible to just paste the file of the module and just paste it into the DesktopModules folder and have the modules working on the website?

If not, is there a way where I can export the whole module from one system and install it onto another system?

    Thanks in advance.

      Hi SF,

No, you can not copy-paste the modules in a folder. Installing takes care of creation of tables etc.
What I do when I want to export a module is use the export function in the module settings. This exports an xml to the file manager. Download to local, upload to the other website, place the module on a page, import the xml from the site assets and you're done.

Does the export function allow me to move the whole module over to another website or just the content?

I dont really need the content, more of the module itself.

The export is regarding content. The module itself needs to be installed on the new website. What kind of module are we talking about? Because it should not be hard. Unless it's some custom made, compiled module and the original creator is nowhere to be found, of course...

Module are distributed as PAs (Packed Assemblies), consisting of a zip file, you select in Personabar > Manage > Extensions (DNN3-8: Host > Extensions). If you are using a recent version, installed assemblies are after install copied to AppData\ExtensionPackages and renamed as ".resources" to prevent download via http/https.

The module I am talking about is a Responsive FAQ module which the previous developers have gotten from www.ModuleDNN.com, but I discovered that they have stopped that module, so, I am unable to get the necessary installation files, but it is still running on the website.

Unless there is a way to install it without the zip file that would be great.

Or if there are any open-source responsive FAQ modules that are similar to that, that are recommended, that would be even better.

Will I be able to get the ".resources" file from a system running DNN 7?

There are several option for open source:
                  https://github.com/DNNCom...ity/DNN.Faq/releases
or if you are already using 2SXC, you can use their app https://github.com/2sic/app-faq/releases

I don't know how many FAQ's you have but 99 out of 100 times I would grab a cup of coffee and start copy pasting instead chasing ghosts. or get the intern to do it :-)

I am not sure, just check the folder I mentioned above, whether it contains the file.
Besides, in Host > Extensions you should find the name, vendor and version of the module installed
