After suffering a ransomeware attack where the database was encrypted, I did a new install of DNN 8, in a new folder, with a new DB. The install seemed to go fine, the wizard ran and I entered in the required info. It then took me to the default site. All seemed fine.

When I returned to the site, I went to log in and I now get a 404 error for both the Login and Register pages. I've double checked folder permissions as well as SQL setting and I don't see any problems there. Any thoughts on troubleshooting this?

The link you suggested was for DNN 9x and I'm running 8.4. A link to the site is http://portal8.oac-inc.com I'm looking for the setting now so that full errors show up for remote users, if you want to look at it.

I just figured out the setting to display error detail to remote users. It's in IIS not Web.config

After a bunch of struggling, I FINALLY figured out was was going on here. The problem revolved around the App Pool in IIS. While I had set the correct permissions for the folder by granting Network Server Read and Write, IIS had NOT set the Network Service as the "identity" it was using. It was using AppPool.XXXXX which isn't an identity you can give folder permissions too, I went into the Advanced setting for the App Pool for the DNN Application and clicked on Identity and changed it to Network Service. Restarted the application and everything worked. Yea!!
I hope this helps someone else.
