Hello!
I am a complete newbie with DNN Platform and have been asked to fix a site that I did not set up. I've been watching all sorts of tutorials but am still somewhat lost :)
I also see no Import or Install option in Extensions. And Settings has no import/export option. How do I upload new modules?
And why am I not able to edit some modules, for example Cart Viper, even though I have admin access?
If appreciate any help you can offer!
Hello Silverbear, and welcome to the DNN community!
You've inherited a DNN website... How exciting!
FYI - this is an outstanding blog post specifically for anyone that's inherited a DNN website, that I hope helps you. It's written by one of our DNN veterans and MVPs.
Every platform of any kind out there works in any number of ways differently than you're used to. It may be a simple use case of looking in the wrong place, despite your best efforts. (Sometimes, that's due to usability that needs to be improved, and other times it's due to knowing how another system has chosen to do the same thing.)
I'm not sure what you mean about importing/exporting modules. Could you please provide some more detail about what you're trying to do and what you expected to happen?
This video will walk you through how to install/upgrade extensions in DNN.
If you're asking about importing/exporting content... Well, that's a far more complicated conversation. I'll clutter your mind with that later, should that be what you're looking for. ;)
Hi Will,
Thank you so much for your response and those videos. I'm still a little confused. The installing extension video shows the user going to the Persona bar and clicking on Settings -> Extensions in a menu with seven more options than I have. For example, I do not have the About, Import/Export, Config Manager, Connectors and other options.
And once the user is in the Extensions tab, it shows an Install Extension button at the top right. I do not have that. I also do not have the Create a Module or Create an Extension button. Seems I am missing other options, too.
In the inheriting a DNN site video, the gif showing how to find the DNN version I have is not loading. Is there another instruction for that? Maybe I just have an old, limited DNN version. I think the site was built in 2013 or so.
It sounds like you may be logged in as an "Administrator" rather than a "Super User". Perhaps there is someone else that manages users and roles within the system that you can ask?
You are most welcome!
Silverbear, there is a great video about what to do if you lost access to your superuser account in DNN, you might want to check that out https://youtu.be/NsCqwbBKRk4.
Hehe - yes, that is a good video from our good friend Aderson Oliveira. Just be sure that if you use EasySQL, please understand that you are temporarily and severely opening up your site to potential attacks. So, it is SUPER IMPORTANT to remove those files QUICKLY upon executing your T-SQL. Honestly, I would recommend avoiding this approach altogether if at all possible. There are even better alternative ways to get around this, but I can't post those publicly. Feel free to reach out to me directly though and I'd be happy to help.
