We're looking for a news module that will allow for an archive.

So far we've been hugely dissappointed with all news/announcement modules on DNN.

Not seen any that allow for an archive that can be linked to.

we're hoping for something like this: News (barnsley.gov.uk) - that can have a monthly archive.
We'd prefer to use a module that end-users can update themselves without the need for developers to manually update a page manually every month.

Did you have a look at ventrian/News-Articles?

This is not a very "modern" extension, but it's doing what it is thought for - and it is Open Source, so you are welcome to improve it...

      Happy DNNing!

        Hi Sypa
        How about https://2sxc.org/apps/app/news-app-v4
Of course, you would need the actual module 2sxc as this app is just one of many options

We have been successfully using Ventrian for news on various sites for many years, e.g. https://www.justiceandpea...mpaigns/Human-Rights

Most of the extensions you find out there have been built because someone out there had asked for it and provided their user requirements.  To do that today, all you'd need to do is find one of the many module developers out there and/or agencies that you want to work with, and you can have the same thing done, if you wish.

Alternatively, it's already been mentioned here that a structured content approach can probably work.  This is what I see most people tend to do these days, depending on what their needs are.

Now, you're not out of luck with the options you have.  You could consider getting creative.

First, if you find something that gets you 90% of the way there, you could contact that specific vendor and ask them what the effort would be to add the missing feature(s) you need.  Most vendors are very receptive to this.  It's how most software updates in the world are initiated.

Next, it may be possible with some minimum effort to have more than one module instance on the same page.  Let's just say you chose Ventrian - only as an example.  I haven't looked at the back-end of this module recently, but it's generally possible to have two instances of the same module on the site, and then there could be any number of low-code ways to "migrate" posts from one module instance to another.  Usually, in the database, it's a simple query to replace one ID number with another.

I hope we've all helped you in some way.  😊

              thanks for the recommendation.

i tried installing Ventrian, but it failed to load (we are using DNN v 9.11. 4.7 Framework) -

Failure File specified in the dnn could not be found in the zip file: -  \Install\Temp\cwi4kcdh\bin\Ventrian.NewsArticles.dll

                Thanks for the recommendation.

we've tried 2sxc in the past with a previous version of DNN and i tried it again (on DNN v 9.11), but we cannot get it to work.
I've downloaded and successfully installed the App but when i install it on a page - there is no app visible. After selecting Add Module, the 2sxc App interface doesn't appear on the page. Under page settings, I can see that it is there but there is no interface visible so I cannot install the News app.

Oh, I was just mentioning the first thing that popped in my head.  The best structured content solutions out there right now seem to be OpenContent and 2sxc.  They're built with different audiences in mind, but they both can get the job done.  It's really up to you and which one you find yourself to be more comfortable with.

Maybe EasyDNN is an option: https://www.easydnnsoluti...-modules/easydnnnews

Oh, yes! It was completeley out of my mind, but EasyDNN has great products (although for a bit of money, but always worth it!)

                      Happy DNNing!
