    A firend of mine, who's webiste i used to manage broke from one day to another. 

    The error:

    Configuration Error

    Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately. 

    Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level.  This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

    Source Error: 

     

    An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

    I did not touch the website for a year. There is an editor who updtes the website through CMS.

    The wbsite is hosted at GoDaddy and DNN is DotNetNuke 7.0.6

    Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:4.0.30319; ASP.NET Version:4.8.3928.0

     

    Any ideas?

      This could be due to a configuration change by Godaddy, but it's also possible that the site has been hacked as 07.00.06 is from 2013 I think and numerous security issues have been fixed since that. https://www.dnnsoftware.c...rity/security-center
      There was a very serious issue in one of the Telerik libraries for instance.
      I would make sure you get hold of as many backups as you can and when you get the site back up, make sure it gets upgrades ASAP. And when you don't have much of IIS / .NET experience, hire somebody to fix this for you.

        How woudl i get the site back up again? It semes all files are stil lthere. I am sure there must be an easy fix. I think it got hacked too as i twas in the past. I had a backup of web.comnfig which helped back then.

        My buddy has no money to pay anymbody and i asked him to set up backup. First thing i looked and there was no backup

          Check if Godaddy has backups of your site and if they have restore an older version. If that works upgrade immediately to DNN 9.4.4 as that is latest greatest and most stable version ever :)
