Hi - total newbie.... we have a site that has a few date fields and they are formatted using Telerik RadCalendar control. What other ways are  there of entering dates on a DNN site? If anyone can point me to any documentation that would be great. We would be happy with just entering DD/MM/YYYY instead of using a picker at all - the main thing we need to achieve is to remove the name of the month....

    Thanks!

Hi LisaF. Welcome to the DNN community!

Is this a custom module being used here? Are you a developer trying to update it with a non-Telerik-based control? If so, what module development pattern (e.g., WebForms, MVC, SPA) are you using?

If you are using SPA (HTML/JS/WebAPI), then you may want to look into using dnn-elements. It is open-source and located on GitHub. You can see the "input" component Storybook for the project HERE. As you can tell from the documentation, you can simply change the "type" of the control to "date" and you will get native functionality out of the box, without the use of Telerik.

Since you are new to DNN, I will mention that it is highly recommend to upgrade DNN to the latest version and to ensure Telerik is completely removed. Let us know if you need more information about this process. It would help if we knew which version of DNN you are currently running.

Hi Dave - thanks so much for getting back to me. Truth is, I am not even a developer - I am just trying to figure out if there is an alternative to this:

If there is an alternative then I will be looking for a developer to do the work. I need a way to enter a date that just has numbers and no text - you will see in the snip above, it shows the month in text, the day of the week and "clear".

My problem is that our site has to be available in muliple languages and we are not allowed to have ANY English visible on the site if the user toggles to an alternative language.

        Our DNN version is 9.11.2.

If I could find out if it is possible and what alternatives there are for entering a date, that would be super.

Thanks again, really appreciate your time.

        Lisa

Lisa, thanks for the additional insight. DNN 9.11.2 (the core platform) does not utilize Telerik-based controls (including the date picker control shown in your screenshot). So, this must be in the context of a custom, open-source, or commercial module. What is the module that you are showing in the screenshot?

That said, the answer is yes. There are alternatives. I mentioned one modern one. However, we would need to know more about the context of this screenshot before we would be able to provide any more definitive guidance.

By the way, my company (linked logo in my signature below) would be happy help with such a project. Feel free to reach out.

David's feedback is spot-on, but also it's worth pointing out again that in addition to improving the date picker user experience, you'll want to upgrade DNN and remove telerik entirely before proceeding.   The telerik code that used to be a part of DNN has major security risks associated with it.  :)
