Hi, when I look into the calls dnn makes it kind of looks like japanes is not accepted...
    So when I do:

It will return results (including japanese content!) , however when I do something like:

    It doesn't.
So, has this got something to do with character encoding or something ?!?! Is there some way of fixing this....

I am not aware of any maintained DNN language packs for Japanese.  The published language packs currently reside https://www.dnnsoftware.c...nload/language-packs" target="_blank">here.

I don't have a DNN install to hand right now (and this might just be an Evoq feature) but I seem to remember somewhere in the search options you could choose a Custom Analyzer. It had options for all sorts of languages.

I can't see anything covering it in the documentation - it just sort of glosses over it without really explaining it - but it's got to be worth a try.

Edit: I found this page in Professional DNN7, which might point you in the right direction.

Yes, you need to set the lucene index on some particular value, and we have done that.
So it looks like it is actually indexing.
However, the problem is more in the searching.
It looks as though you cannot search on japanese characters...

So, when you search for an english word, in this case 'performance' since I know this is an english word which is used on the site, it will actually give you results. And in the summary's I can actually see japanes characters, so it looks like lucene is indexing japanese content.

However if I search for a japanes word like '科学的裏付' nothing will show up, though I'm pretty sure it should be in the index.

Did you try to physically delete the lucene files and doing a re-index?

When in doubt, as it pertains to the search engine, this is always a go-to troubleshooting step for me. :)
