In DNN 9.8.0 the file manager (telerik) is replaced with the new resourcemanager.

Looks great but how can you:

    • Change folder permissions?
    • Make folder/files secure?

      • [...]
      • Make folder/files secure?

I don't think that this was ever possible, except when you create it.

The only way that comes in my mind is to create a secure folder and move the files from the unsecure folder to the secure folder. Then delete the unsecure folder and rename the secure folder to the previous name of the unsecure folder.

But this will propably break all links to the files in this folder, as the files in a secure folder always haf this "filename.ext.resource" schema, and will only be available using the LinkClick.aspx filehandler. I don't know if this is worth it, but when the files are really secret, it could be.

      Happy DNNing!

Speaking of the new Resource Manager is there any way to change the layout instead of the obscenely large icon view, such as a standard list view?

I don't think it can be changed at this time. But ... expect the Resource Manager to get a LOT of attention between now and the time that it becomes standard in DNN 10.

The DNN team is quite aware of it's limitations. But getting in into DNN 9.8.0 is QUITE A FEAT, so let's enjoy it and wait for the frosting and candles to be added.)

              Joe,

i agree, but I wonder why someone always tries to re-invent the wheel. For decades, a tree and a list have been the best solution to visualize a folder structure and containing files, and a practical solution to copy and move files inside that structure. So what's wrong with it now?

This new layout is only practical for a handful of folders and files, but it is beta and hopefully this will change before the release, otherwise it will not be useable for most of my customer's sites, and we have to stay on that Telerik sh...

                Michael,

My understanding is that the new Resources Manager was "gifted" to the project. Most of the work to get it into DNN was the work involved in replacing the Telerik components and that took precedence over other things.

You'll also note that the new Resources Manager is not installed by default. I take that as a clear indicator that it's there for tire kicking and experimentation. But, it it suits your needs you can replace the existing Assets pages with the Resources Manager. Doing so removes the remaining Telerik vulnerabilities in the platform. Other modules may include Telerik features, so are not immune.

                New Around Here

                  Hi all!

I have a new install of DNN 9.9.1 in which I have made some tests.

I did removed all dependencies to Telerik and have installed the new resorce manager (version 9.9.1) which is used as filemanager in the site.

I was surpriced by the design of the new user interface of the Resource Manager. As Joe and Michael wrote in october 2020, the design is probably not very useful in most situations. It seams to me as the Resorce Manager version 9.9.1 is much like the one from ocktober 2020.

The version of the Resource Manager module is reported as 9.9.1 in my site.
Does any of you know if there is any newer version of the resource manager with a better (more compact and efficiant) user interface?

If not we have to wait and see how the resource manager in DNN version 10 looks, even if it feels kind of scary. If the resource mananger in DNN 10 works like the one I now have tested it is really not good. I think it needs to be much more compact in order to be efficiant.

I have looked for estimated dates for when DNN version 10 can be released but have fond notheing yet. Has any of you seen any information regarding this?

My intension was to be a step ahead and remove all dependencies to Telerik and replace or update modules using Telerik now in order to get a higher security and also to be prepared for the coming DNN version 10.

                  All the best!
                  /Peter
